New Homes For Sale in Quantico, VA - Virginia Real Estate, Condominiums, Townhomes, Condos, Home Builders

Quantico, Virginia located 30 miles south of Washington, D.C. on the banks of the Potomac River is one of America’s largest Marine Corps installations.

Explored by Captain John Smith in 1608, Quantico, which in Indian dialect means “By the Stream,” became home to many Revolutionary War heroes. British and American troops traveled the nearby countryside from one battlefield to the next. During the Civil War, the town played a vital role in the Confederacy's defense of the Potomac River. In 1917, the land was sold to the Marine Corps and was immediately used as a training facility for 3,500 men and in 1920, the Marine Corps schools were founded. By 1941, Quantico had become the primary Marine Corps training facility and amphibious warfare tactics developed here were ultimately responsible for the Pacific Theatre’s World War II victory. In 1947, Quantico introduced the first helicopter troop transport force which played a primary role in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Today, Quantico is referred to as “The Crossroads of the Marine Corps,” home of the Marine Corps Development Command and Marine Corps University. The FBI Academy is located on base as well. In sum, Quantico, VA is considered the Marine Corps training hub employing 10,000 civilians and 7000 Marines with a total population of 22,000, many of whom live off base. There are 1,400 military homes on base and several barracks housing 1,200 Marine bachelors. Approximately 3,500 military personnel actually live in Quantico.

Residential development is limited here. Many new home shoppers choosing to live near Quantico search new home communities located in the Interstate 95 corridor such as: Woodbridge, Lake Ridge, South Oak, Dumfries, Triangle and Dale City. Prices in these areas range from the high $100’s for condominiums to over $500,000 for luxury single family homes.
